Secretaries and administrative assistants help an organization run efficiently. They use computer software to create spreadsheets, manage databases, and prepare presentations, reports, and documents. They also may negotiate with vendors, buy supplies, and manage stockrooms or corporate libraries. Secretaries and administrative assistants also set up appointments and use videoconferencing and other office equipment. Specific job duties vary by experience, job title, and specialty, but they work in almost every sector of the economy, including schools, government, and private corporations.

How much can I earn with a CAP certification?

According to Zippia, the average salary for an administrative professional in the U.S. is $39,486. Administrative professional salaries typically range between $23,000 and $65,000 a year. The average hourly rate for administrative professionals is $18.98 per hour.

Does this course prepare you for a certification?

Yes. You will be prepared for the Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) certification offered by the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP). Please visit IAAP for more detailed information on eligibility and applying for the exam.

You will also be prepared for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exams: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. To earn the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert Certification, you must earn the Associate certification by completing three of the following exams:

  • For students using Microsoft Office 2019/2021: MO-100 (Word), MO-200 (Excel), MO-300 (PowerPoint), or MO-400 (Outlook)
  • For students using Microsoft Office 365: MO-110 (Word), MO-210 (Excel), MO-310 (PowerPoint), or MO-400 (Outlook)

And complete two of the following expert exams:

  • For students using Microsoft Office 2019/2021: MO-101 (Word Expert), MO-201 (Excel Expert), or MO-500 (Access Expert)
  • For students using Microsoft Office 365: MO-111 (Word Expert), MO-211 (Excel Expert), or MO-500 (Access Expert)

This course is open enrollment, so you can register and start the course whenever you are ready. Access to your course can take 24-48 business hours.

How long does it take to complete this course?

After you register, you will receive 12 months to complete the course. The time allotted for completion has been calculated based on the number of course hours.

What if I don't have enough time to complete the course within the time frame provided?

If you are unable to complete the course, contact your Student Advisor to help you work out a suitable completion date. Please note that an extension fee will be charged. If you are funded through a third-party organization, approval may also be required.

To earn the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Expert Certification, you must earn the Associate certification by completing the MO-100 (Word), MO-200 (Excel), and MO-300 (PowerPoint) exams, and also complete two of the following expert exams: MO-101 (Word), MO-202 (Excel), or MO-500 (Access).
